We’ve already seen that the book of Revelation contains plenty of apocalyptic imagery that is both vivid and sensational. This week we’ll encounter an angel throwing a censer of burning incense to the earth, followed by hail and fire mixed with blood, a burning mountain thrown into the sea, a great star blazing like a torch as it falls on rivers and springs, and then a partial darkening of sun, moon, and stars. And you’re thinking, “What’s with all that fiery drama and environmental catastrophe?!” Well, these are just the opening scenes in the TRUMPETS OF JUDGMENT unveiled in Revelation 8-9. Our passage will end with demonic locusts and horses from hell! And now you’re thinking, “Hey, sounds like a perfect Sunday to invite a friend!” Actually, it just might be! Through all the graphic symbolism of this text, God has an important message for us all.
